Launching my Private Studio Residency: Following the Thread
Join me! An exciting creative exploration: 5/26 to 7/4
I'm starting something a little different in the studio this summer: a self-directed residency I’m calling Following the Thread. It begins on May 26, 2025 (Memorial Day) and continues to July 4, fitting dates for a project exploring memory, identity, and how the past lingers and tinges our present.
What is a Studio Residency?
Traditionally, an artist residency is a defined period of time to step away from the everyday and be deeply immersed in creative work. This one is happening right here in my own studio. I’ve made a personal commitment to focused studio time, creative risk-taking, and following ideas wherever they lead.
Theme: Following the Thread
I’ve been doing some other work with memories and the past and chose this theme to support that. I’m exploring the role of memory in shaping identity, especially how memory shifts and distorts as we revisit it. I’ve chosen to work with paper-based media which is mostly printmaking, collage, paper ephemera, and written fragments, using a limited color palette and layers of mark and meaning to trace these ideas. It’s been a while since I worked with these and some are new or less-familar to me so there’s that aspect of exploration as well.
I plan to have a visual record of some kind - maybe a zine or lookbook - and a small piece or two for the Art in Hands Project as well. Because I’m experimenting with materials and techniques along the way, some of that is likely to become studio fragements or folios that are for you to hold in your hands.
Follow Along with Me
If you’re curious to see what unfolds, I’ll be sharing regular updates in the Studio Updates Feed and on Substack Notes.
You’ll also get an occasional newsletter from me during the residency with highlights and reflections.
This project is deeply personal, and contemplative. It’s a departure from my current studio practice and I’m excited to see what emerges as a thread back to memory and forward to something new.
Thanks for being on this journey with me.

PS There’s still time! There are only 2 Studio Fragments Folios on Kickstarter left looking for homes and hands to hold them. One is spoken for but I’d love to see them find homes. These aren’t products as much as they’re me - real art from my hands to yours. Take look, choose your favorite, or share with a friend who may connect with it. Check them out here!
Love the sound of this - a self directed studio residency! That’s an idea I just might steal one of these days!
